Case Study: Gas Fired Kiln For Aerospace Ceramic Cores

Therser UK Ltd have recently completed the construction and installation of a One Car, Gas Fired Intermittent Kiln, down draught, complete with mechanical vertical lift up door and associated equipment.

Overview

The maximum rated temperature of this specific kiln is 1,350°C and the normal firing temperature is 1,260°C.

The fuel is LNG Gas and the atmosphere is oxidising.

Useful Dimensions

  • Chamber volume: 1.0m³
  • Setting dimensions per car: 1.250mm long, 0.800mm wide, 1.000mm high.
  • Kiln external dimensions: 3800mm long over kiln frame, door and flue, 1800mm wide, 2300mm high, 4000mm afterburner.


The number of cars in this kiln is one and the useful (setting) volume is 1.0m³. There are two zones per kiln with Gas/Air Ratio combustion control system.

The main burners in the kiln are 4 off, Eclipse excess air thermojet, high velocity burners, ionisation/ignition probes, with silica carbide quarls. The afterburner is 2 off, Eclipse as above.

The kiln door type is a Mechanical Vertical lift up door.
